Brandanalytische Untersuchungen von Polymerwerkstoffen.
Abstract
The toxicity of smoke gases produced by organic materials in the case of fire has not yet been completely investigated, although it is essential for the safety of respectively confronted persons. The aim of this work was to analyze the composition of smoke gases and to determine the respective concentrations of major smoke gas components. Different fire scenarios were investigated using different types of fire testing furnaces. Samples of different dimensions were used. A transportable FTIR spectrometer allowed to determine quantitatively and time-resolved concentrations of several constituents of the smoke gas for the different fire scenarios simulated. Based on these experimental data a global assessment of the smoke gas toxicity could be made. Using poly (vinyl chloride) the dependence of smoke gas composition on fire scenarios was demonstrated.
